Florida Health Insurance Agents

Please make sure you are dealing with a Florida licensed insurance agent and not one of America's Ten Most Wanted.

Here are some guidelines that should help you immediately:

1. You do not want to buy Florida health insurance from a captive agent. That means, the agent should represent more than one insurance carrier. Most of the better agents represent at least 3 or 4 different companies.

2. Do not let an agent strong-arm you into signing a form. I am not saying you cannot make a decision when presented with a proposal. However, tell the agent you want to think about itand check for their reaction. They should tell you that it will be fine to think about the purchase and to call them with questions.

3. Some plans have application fees. Anything more than $50 is obscene. There are Florida health insurance companies that actually get people to give them $100 just to sign up. Stay away from these companies and show the salespeople the door.

4. Florida health insurance is medically underwritten. You must be completely truthful on the applications or it will come back to haunt you. If an agent infers that it is alright to leave something off, they are helping you to committing a felony. Your boot on their behind would be appropriate in this case.

5. Stay away (unless it is the only thing you qualify for) from plans that offer a daily amount for hospital stays. These are not adequate plans. For instance one or two companies will pay $300 a day for a hospital stay. Make sure you ask about these limitations.

6. Discount cards and medical supplements will not do you any good in a serious illness. Don't be a fool. A discount program for $100 a month is not insurance. Florida health insurance plans can be expensive. However, there are many ways to bring down your costs. A discount card is not a substitute for health insurance.

7. If you go online to find Florida health insurance, make sure you do not fill in your entire address on a form. They only need your zip code and/or county. Most sites that ask for your entire address will be selling your information to many users. You will find yourself buried under mail, email and telephone calls. Many will calls will have nothing to do with insurance.

8. Since many of you have asked, we will make it possible to talk directly to one of our agents. They will answer your questions, offer quotes from a half a dozen different companies and adhere to the principles set forth in this guide.
